From the Heart of our Deacon Chairman

The following is a message from our new Deacon Chairman, Dan Jensen, to the new Deacon Board. It is posted here with his permission . . . .

Fellow Deacons,

People in our church are messed up.

We have alcoholics, adulterers, divorced couples, unwed mothers, rebels, gossipers, liars, selfish people, cheaters….. Sinners all!

But…. they are in our church!

Our city is filled with more of the same, but they are not in our church. They need Jesus. They need a place to go where they can learn about Him, have their children taught about Jesus, have their teenagers be loved, accepted, and encouraged in wisdom.

This building and future buildings with the Cornerstone name on the front are tools to reach the people of Yuba City and the surrounding area and even WAY Farther!

Our job as Deacons and Deaconesses is:
· To be creative in our thinking.
· To be rational and responsible in the spending of resources.
· To be hard working and selfless.
· To maintain the physical integrity of our facilities.
· To prepare in whatever way necessary for the arrival of the people of Yuba City.
· And most importantly, to proceed at God’s leading.

“Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

When you nervously watch the shadows and trees, God’s illumination of the path goes unnoticed. When you stand in front of God’s light, your own shadow obscures the path. If we as deacons fail to seek our Lord and Master daily through Prayer, Quiet Time, Study… we will be facing the wrong direction or blocking the light when we try to make decisions that effect this church.

Two favorite verses:

“Fine linen was given them to wear. Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.” (Revelation 19:8) (“righteous acts” are given to us to “wear” or perform)

“To do the work that God has prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)

We have work to do….

Dan Jensen
